Qld Govt accused of neglecting irukandji research

A marine stinger expert has accused the State Government of neglecting research efforts into the potentially deadly irukandji jellyfish.

Dr Jamie Seymour from the Tropical Australian Stinger Research Unit at James Cook University says the annual stinger season is in full swing.
Dr Seymour says Government funds for research could help save lives.
"We have nets out there to keep sharks at bay. We have shark response teams. We don't have jellyfish response teams and I cannot for the life of me work out why," he said.
"I can not believe that we do not fund research in that area given we're a world expert. It's a problem on our doorstep.
"It just seems that because it's not a problem in the capital city that the Queensland Government doesn't want to know about it."
